Louboutin on the Brain

Classic Black Suede
Mr. Christian Louboutin
If you have ever watched a red carpet event, or seen pictures of celebrities, then most likely you have seen the red soled shoes.  Christian Louboutin colors the soles of his shoes red to set them apart from all other shoes. Every time I see this glint of red my heart flutters just a little bit, because these are some of the most amazing shoes, with their unique design, and style I can always pick them out of a crowd.  Louboutins are not just amazing, because of their fun style and design, but becasue Christian Louboutin makes a classic black pump that will be in style forever.

Celebs in Louboutins
Louboutins are an investment, the price depends on the shoe and style, but I would say plan on spending at least $500, and prices typically go up from there.  Before you cast aside ever wearing or buying these shoes, think about this, would you buy expensive art?  Because if you are willing to spend it on a piece of art that typically has no true function, then consider a pair of Louboutins.  More than just a name they are a revolution to women's shoes, Mr. Louboutin has pushed the height of a classic pump to over six inches.  A six inch shoe would put me at 5'10'', close to six feet tall!!  Aside from this they are just so much fun to look at, and they are guaranteed to get you compliments!

Louboutins can be seen not just, on the street, red carpet, or runway, but on Miss fashion icon herself, Barbie.  My women and words classmates would argue that we are gearing our little girls, to have expensive taste, or showing them that style is a priority.  First, there is nothing wrong with having expensive taste.  I have champagne taste on a beer budget, but I work for what I want, and it makes getting that item feel so much better! Second, appearance is important no matter what anyone says.  I am not saying that looks are everything, but when you go for a job interview, or are meeting someone for the first time, they judge, and form opinions within the first five minutes of meetig.

Dillian Flower
I guess I can not force you to buy Louboutins, but hopefully you feel inspired to at least admire how amazing they are.  Here are some of my favorite styles.  I love the basic black above, but my two favorite unique styles are the Dillian Flower and the Daffodile.  The Dillian costs $1,695 and the Daffodile costs $5,995.  So I better start saving now!!

Taylored Style

1949
Today a style icon, Elizabeth Taylor died at the age of seventy-nine.  In light of this I thought that I would dedicate a blog post to some of her famous style moments. Taylor first made an impact on Hollywood in the film National Velvet, but it was not until the 50's and 60's that she would leave an everlasting mark in fashion. In the 1950's Taylor epitomized Hollywood glamour with her chic sheaths and occasional tiaras.  In the 1960's she experimented onscreen and offscreen with turbans, dramatic eyeliner, and capes.  In 1960 Elizabeth Taylor also became the highest paid actress at the time when she signed a one million dollar contract for the film Cleopatra. Even though, in her later years she became better known for her long list of marriages, which was at eight, she still had a style that was indescribable. Many coveted and still do her infamous jewelry collection, Elizabeth Taylor will remain an icon, not just because she was the first celebrity to launch a fragrance, but because of how she revolutionized fashion.  Here are some of the more famous looks of Elizabeth Taylor.

Green, Green, Green & Green!!

Today is St. Patrick's Day, and as I look around at the SFSU students I can not help but notice that not everyone is dressed in green.  As I sat down for lunch with my friend, I noticed like many that she was not wearing green.  I calmly asked her why, as I am passionate about St. Patrick's Day, since I am not only Irish, but who does not like drinking?  Anyway, she responded that she did not have any green to wear.  I do not believe this, everyone owns something green, and below are fashionable ways to wear green!!

And when all else fails wear green underwear!! ;D

White Watches

Within the past six months, white has become a staple in fashion.  Like many I have fallen to the white trend.  This trend has even influenced my mom, so white must be popular if she is wearing it in a fashionable way.

White, like black, is always seen in fashion, because it is a color that goes with anything.  However, lately white has become popular in jeans and watches, a typically uncommon place.  Recently, I purchased a white watch, not just because I like the way it looks, but because I noticed that others were wearing white watches too.  I have seen the white watch trend popping up everywhere, it has reached from students on the SFSU campus to the red carpet, it's everywhere!  Typically, silver or gold is common for watch colors, but with spring brings new trends and colors.  So look out for colored watches along with white.  I look forward to wearing mine,  but I must know have you seen the white watch trend?

Miami Beet by OPI
Typically I write on fashionable clothes, but in this post I am going to change it up a bit.  I am going to talk about nail polish.  Recently, in one of my daily emails from Glamour Magazine, I was informed of the perfect nail polish color for March, according to Petra Gugliemetti.  The nail polish is Miami Beet by OPI.  First, I must say that I love OPI they are one of the best nail polish lines, because the polish stays on for so much longer than other polishes.  This email came at a perfect time, because I was struggling finding a color to paint my nails yesterday, and could not come to a conclusion, so I just left them blank. Today, I am going to go to a beauty supply store to check out the nail polish color that Gugliemetti suggests.  However, I am also going to look at other colors.
color I ended up buying... "that's berry darling"

I am at work right now thinking of all the things I want, need, and what I have to buy.  I have to buy my friends, who are twins, a Birthday gift, fleece Columbia jackets. Then I need to pay for gas to and from school weekly, along with my phone bill, and my credits card bills.  However, even though I know I can not afford it I really want the iPad 2.  I work in Los Gatos and across from the store I work at is an Apple store, and people have lined up to get their iPad 2 when it comes out at 5pm today.  I am so envious that they will be getting their iPad now, and I may have to wait a month or god for bid two!!

I bet you are wondering what this has to do with fashion, well it has everything to do with it!!  Basically, I am always wanting more, just like many other people.  It does not matter if it is an iPad, a flat screen, or the latest Chanel bag, the point is we all want.  My question is though will it ever be enough?  I have a closet that is packed with not one row of clothes, but two.  Whenever my friends come over to borrow clothes they always say "I don't know how you find stuff!"  This is not because of a lack of organization, because when it comes to clothes and accessories I am organized.  Tank tops in the front in rainbow colored order, then the jackets, the ones that fit, to the right of the tank tops. On the back bar is other tops that have short or long sleeves, in rainbow order, and then dresses come after them.  Did I mention that I also have a dresser, a coat rack, and a shelf in the closet for sleep and workout clothes?  I am obsessed, and I can not help but wonder will it be enough?

I know the answer is never!!  Because there is always something new!  So I guess the question begs what do you want that you can't have??

She Has A Blog?

So I was trying to find something to write about for my new post, and on Glamour magazine's website I came across Glamour's Young & Posh Blogger Network.  I clicked on the second blog,Wardrobe Necessity: The Classic Trench Coat, as it said that it had to do with fashion, and not relationships like the first.  As I read through the blog post I found that I was unimpressed.  I mean the writing was okay, no better than mine in my opinion, and I think for a national magazine the writing should be outstanding, but I guess who am I to judge since I failed the JEPT?

Another thing that got me with the post was that her pictures did not really match with what she was saying.  In the post she say"I'm not a big fan of rain boots, carrying an umbrella gets annoying, and well, I hate knowing that no matter what, at least one part of my outfit if going to end up wet." Her point being that trench coasts can be a great thing, which I do not disagree with, but she claims to not like rain boots, but then in the pictures she has on the post she has the model wearing rain boots with a trench coat.  I thought she was not a fan of rain boots? If in fact she is not a fan, then maybe her pictures should depict this! I just thought it was a little odd that she would make a mistake like this. Maybe I am overreacting, what do you think?

Second Hand

To some used has a bad connotation, but when it comes to fashion used can be a great thing!  Just this past weekend I was shopping, and came across some second hand items in a store that was not second hand.  I purchased a bag and my mom purchased a scarf.  Both items are in great condition, and if the shop owner had not told me that they were used I never would have known.  Basically, second hand items are the best kept fashion secret.

From Prescilla's blog I found a post that fit perfectly into mine, "A new perspective on the quote 'one mans trash is another man's treasure' with Yuken Teruya." Basically Teruya is an artist who uses items that most people would assume to be trash.  She uses these items to make beautiful pieces of art. Clothes and accessories are just the same, at some point everyone has to get rid of old stuff, and you have the ability to reap the benefits from someone else's "trash."

Discover Shop in Los Gatos, Ca
Some places to find second hand items are, of course, goodwill, usually there is a goodwill store near any town.  In San Francisco just go to the Haight, they have many shops, some costume, and some just general wear.  Also, there is another chain of second hand shops called Discovery Shop. There are many second hand shops out there.  The hard part is picking through all the stuff and finding your treasure.

If you know of any great second hand shops please let me know!

Oscar Fashion

The Oscars were on Sunday night, and of course I watched to see who would be a fashion success, and who would receive an "F." As always there was an array of dresses, some good, some not so good, and in this post I am going to break it down for you.

After looking at a majority of the fashions of the night I have come up with a list of who should have stayed home, and who looked amazing.

                                                Best Dressed
Melissa Leo
1. Melissa Leo
Some hated her dress and thought that it looked like a table cloth, I thought it looked amazing.  She is fifty years old, and she looked better than some of the twenty year olds!

Halle Berry

2. Halle Berry
The only was to describe Halle Berry's dress is beautiful, from her hair to makeup, to her shoes she looked amazing.  The dress was sexy in a subtle way, but it was also very glamourous.  I love the sparkles and the tulle, it is just the right amount to make her an "A+."

Hallee Steinfeld
3. Hallee Steinfeld
In todays society we see young famous girls growing up so fast, they display this in the dresses they wear.  Hallee Steinfeld just showed all those girls that you can go to a red carpet event, and still look young and fresh, without showing all your assets.

                                         Worst Dressed
1. Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon
I watched the Oscars with my mom, and she loved Reese's look, I did not.  I think she looked at fashion from a 1990's Oscar show, and selected her hair and dress from that decade.  Maybe the hair could of worked with a different dress or vice versa, but together this outfit earns her an "F."
2. Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman
I think she went to Trudy's and got advice from a Senior in high school.  Kidman's dress looks like it could be worn to prom, and it is just strange looking.  There is just so much about this dress that confuses me, did she wear it, because she needed a hand rest?  All I can say is I hope she left the tag on it, because it should do back in the morning!

3. Amy Adams
Amy Adams
I think that this dress could have been very beautiful, but it went wrong as many dresses can and do, and got her onto my worst dressed list.  First, the neckline is way to high, and the necklace she added does not help the dress look better in anyway.  Also, I would of liked to see the back of the dress cut low if the front is going to be high, a la Hilary Swank Oscars .  Also the capped sleeves are unflattering, make them longer or cut them off.
